The Reggae in Tyneside events diary lists details of reggae shows and related events coming up in Newcastle and across Tyneside, including the area's regular reggae nights.

Saturday 20 June

The launch of new North East sound Ital Guidance, meeting London's Jah Tubbys World System inna di dance. The home sound features selector Scarface, operator Jahphonic and vocalist Ras Mystic, plus guest MC Danman. The visitors feature Tubbys himself, with MC Prof Natty. Heavyweight business, not to be missed.

A killer ska and rocksteady double bill with Derrick Morgan and Owen Gray, with band, and Ska'd For Life DJs.

Sunday 21 June
A killer roots double header for day two, with acclaimed singer, songwriter and producer Freddie MacGregor, plus The Congos, and band.

Plus local flavours from Diddley Squat, Emperor's Dentist, Rob The Rub and Pangea sound system over the two days.

Reggae Film Festival
For the first time in the UK, Boss Sounds presents the best of Jamaica's Reggae Film Festival, playing over the festival's two days.

Saturday 20 June
  • The Story of Randys
    The story of the Chin family and the golden age of Jamaican music. Features rare archive footage and interviews with Ken Boothe, Big Youth, Stranger Cole and Pat Kelly. 2.10pm
  • DUke Vin and the Birth of Ska
    The story of Duke Vin, operator of the first UK sound system who bought the sound of Ska to the country. 2.50pm
  • Word Sound and Power
    A documentary bout the Soul Syndicate, Jamaicas’ finest group of instrumentalists who backed Bob Marley and the Wailers, Toots and the Maytals, Burning Spear and Jimmy Cliff. 3.40pm
Sunday 21 June
  • Dreadlock Rock
    Stunning documentary following Californian musician Jack Miller, who went to Jamaica in 1977 and befriended, recorded and performed with a who’s who of Jamaican reggae superstars including Sly and Robbie, the Mighty Diamonds and Big Youth. 2.10pm
  • Heartland Reggae
    Documentary of the One Love Peace Concert held in Kingston, Jamaica in 1978. This superb film features footage of Bob Marley, U Roy, Jacob Miller and Peter Tosh. 3.00pm
  • Rico The Legacy
    Rico, trombone player to the Specials, Bob Marley, Laurel Aitken and Jools Holland is celebrated in this superb documentary. 4.30pm

Hoo har present former Special, 2-Tone co-founder and anti-Apartheid campaigner Jerry Dammers with a rollicking DJ set.

Dub inna Pub: every Wednesday

Newcastle's longest running reggae night, established way back in 1998 and still going strong! Reggae and dub from Calculus, Dubcat, Qzo and friends. Weekly, Wednesday nights.
