Boss Sounds festival, 18/19 November 2006

Boss Sounds 2006 flyer (front)

For its second year, the Jumpin' Hot Club's Boss Sounds festival at the University of Northumbria Students Union, Newcastle, expanded to become a two-day event. Day One featured multi-talented UK musician, producer and engineer Dennis Bovell and his Dub Band, who also provided the backing for sets from lovers rock star Janet Kay and dub poet Linton Kwesi Johnson. The legendary Horace Andy tore the place apart as the day's headliner, backed by the UK's hardest riddim section, Mafia and Fluxy. Trojan Sound System, festival DJ Don Letts and locals Stalawatt and Lion's Den provided the support.

Day Two saw the festivities shift to the main hall, with Pama International (featuring Lynval Golding), mad genius Lee Scratch Perry, a blistering performance from the voice of the people, Prince Buster, and a sublime closing set from festival headliner Jimmy Cliff. Don Letts provided the entertainment between the acts once again, while Stalawatt played a lengthy warm-up.

The photos show Horace Andy, Prince Buster and Jimmy Cliff.
